Shopping in Washington DC

Although you might not think that the words "shopping" and "Washington DC" go together, you would actually be surprised at the different shopping opportunities available in the city. Whether you are looking for unique works of art or just want to see the latest fashions, you will no doubt be able to find something on your wish list and in your price range in this city.

One of the largest shopping areas in the area is the Union Station shopping mall located near Capitol Hill. Here, you can find great gifts, souvenirs, fashions, and food under one roof. The Union Station also features great architecture, lots of parking, and a historic back story for the history buffs in your group. Or, you can stroll through Barracks Row on 8th Street SE and browse in the antique stores.

If upscale shopping is your niche, you will want to go to the Chevy Chase section of the city. Here, you will find shops like Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. Tou can shop at Bloomingdale's, Talbots, Cole Haan, and Eileen Fisher. Or, stop at The Collection to browse stores like Jimmy Choo, Gucci, and Tiffany & Co. At the Friendship Height Metro station, you can find budget friendly shops like TJ Maxx as well as the Pottery Barn and J. Crew.

In Downtown DC, you can shop at Chinatown's Gallery Place or just stroll down F Street to sample gourmet cheese and shop for urban fashions. You may want to purchase jewelry at Mia Gemma or look for hand made fashions at Peruvian Connections. If you want to purchase art, then take a look at the 7th Street Galleries to see pieces created by upcoming new artists.

Georgetown is probably one of the most popular shopping destinations in the city. The quaint neighborhood is full of locally owned boutiques and shops like Pink November, Sugar and Piccolo Piggies, and more. You can also find chain shops like Coach and Restoration Hardware.

As you can see, Washington DC isn't just about politics! Spend some time shopping in the city and chances are that you will want to tell your friends and family about the great finds and wonderful bargains just waiting for shoppers here.
